After some 34 years running our business as Humane Animal Removal, we’ve seen just about every situation between an owner of a pet dog that could possibly happen.  In our line of work we have to deal with the reality of people that are heartbroken after the loss
of their pet.  To some pet owners, they’re just dogs but to others, the love between them and the dog is so much deeper.  The dog literally becomes a true family member.

A few years ago, we received a call from a man in Homestead.  He was obviously very upset over the loss of his pet.  We took the basic information over the phone and I jumped in my truck to go pick up his dog.  Upon arriving, I noticed the man sitting on the ground in front of his garage, the large Rottweiler deceased in his arms.  He was crying over the death of his dog.  My first thought was that the dog had got out and been hit by a car.  When people are in mental pain like this, the last thing I ever do is rush them.

When the man composed himself, he told me that one year ago, TO THE DAY, the dog had been stolen from his back yard.  I asked, “How did you get him back”.  He then said “I heard a bark outside and when I opened the garage, there he was, he found his way home”.  When he ran to the dog, each of them hugged each other.  Then, for some unknown reason, the dog collapsed and died in his arms.  He said “He found his way back to me”.  It was all I could do to not break down in tears with him.

I will never forget this deceased pet removal job as one of the most heartfelt ones I have ever done.
